How do I cancel my housing contract if I WILL NOT be attending/returning to NIU or living in DeKalb County?

If you will NOT be attending NIU / living in DeKalb County, you have NOT moved into the fraternity home, and you DID sign a Membership Agreement/Housing Lease/Liability Waiver (a.k.a. housing contract) then you need to notify the PSK Alumni Board Housing Chairman in writing via the Housing Appeal Link in order to “request a cancellation” of your housing contract.  Every situation will be evaluated on its own merit and final outcomes will be determined (usually within 30 days).  It is important to note that your housing contract cannot be unilaterally cancelled and once signed is a legally binding document.  Effort will be made to work with you and your situation as long as early and frequent written communication is provided.

Only officers and directors on the PSK Alumni Association of NIU Board of Directors are authorized to negotiate the terms of your housing contract.  Nothing is official until it has been communicated in writing from an authorized officer or director on the PSK Alumni Association of NIU Board of Directors. If you have lived in the home at least one semester and you do not wish to return for the second semester of your contract, you must email the PSK alumni board Operations@PSKaaNIU.org to discuss your options.  No officer or member of the undergraduate chapter is authorized to represent the PSK Alumni Board of Directors on any terms stipulated in the housing contract.

What if I want to cancel my contract but WILL be attending NIU / living in DeKalb County but have NOT moved into the fraternity home?

If you have signed a housing contract to live in the fraternity home located at 1300 Blackhawk Road, DeKalb, IL, and will be returning to NIU / living in DeKalb County, and have NOT moved into the fraternity home, but no longer desire to reside in the fraternity home, you must notify the PSK Alumni Board Housing Chairman in writing via email in order to “request a cancellation of your housing contract via the Housing Appeal Link

Important to note, you are responsible for room, board and dues charges as delineated in the Membership Agreement/Housing Lease/Liability Waiver (a.k.a. housing contract) until a release is granted.  The signing of another housing contract (i.e., apartment lease) is not grounds for release from your housing contract with PSK.  No officer or member of the undergraduate chapter is authorized to represent the PSK Alumni Board of Directors on terms stipulated in the housing contract.

What if I am having trouble paying my RB&D?

We do our best to work with our residents.  Good communication is critical to the process.  We strongly suggest you put things in writing and keep the flow of communications going.  Here are some examples of what to do and when.

1)      If you HAVE moved into the fraternity home and/or executed your housing contract, you must contact the PSK Alumni Board via email at Operations@PSKaaNIU.org to discuss your options and/or make payment arrangements.  Every reasonable effort will be made to work with you to help resolve your personal situation.  We want to insure the best possible outcome for you.

2)      In the unfortunate situation where you were not able to meet payment deadlines and could not make payment arrangements with the Alumni Board Treasurer your balance may be turned over to our legal advisor for collection.  While we make every reasonable effort to avoid this action it sometimes may be unavoidable.  In these extremely rare cases all initial communication needs to be directed to our legal advisor via email at Legal@PSKaaNIU.org.  In addition resident/member shall be required to pay all of PSK Alumni’s costs, expenses and attorney’s fees incurred in enforcing any of the terms and conditions of its housing contract.
